A gilded sofa in a luxury photo zone, flanked by half-naked Moors dressed in silk harem trousers and turbans, gently fanning guests with peacock feathers. The ultimate London party fantasy.
THE GREAT BRITISH PARTY RULEBOOK STRIKES AGAIN
However just few days before the event, Annabel's—known for hosting the most exclusive private London parties—suddenly informed us that men in Moor attire were simply not allowed. Not even at a private event. Because, naturally, if men were allowed to go shirtless, then someone would eventually demand topless women leaping out of cakes, and well—that simply wouldn’t do.
PRIVATE PARTNER EVENTS REQUIRE FLEXIBILITY
We adjusted—our new proposal included a dancer in a Martini glass. But it turned out that even if the glass was plastic and even if it had no Martini or any other liquid in it, it would still require additional insurance and the club wouldn't allow it. We adjusted again—a subtle hint of magic, just enough to keep the night intriguing. A fortune teller for the women, a sleight-of-hand magician for the men. The peacock feathers from the Moor concept were demoted to table décor. Guests were instructed to wear black, because mystery was our last remaining luxury.

And so, the night came full circle.
